Appointment setting for a therapy practice
To be clear about what this is not: nobody calls individuals about therapy. The calling is business to business, aimed at people who already have someone to refer and nowhere organized to send them. Prescribers with waitlists, primary care and pediatric offices, school counselors, family law attorneys, dietitians, OB practices, EAP coordinators and care managers at larger clinics.
The ask is a fifteen-minute meeting or a coffee, plus permission to send a one-page referral sheet. Nothing is sold on the call. Referral relationships are the most durable client source in this field and the least worked, mostly because the work is dull and gets pushed behind clinical hours.
The mistake is the anonymous brochure. A referral sheet naming a clinician, a specialty and an actual open slot this month beats a glossy list of modalities from a practice nobody has spoken to. Two weeks in, the list is built, the calls are made, and there are meetings on your calendar you did not book yourself.
